Make Your Bank Stronger with the Help of Your Peers
Running a bank has never been tougher.  You need all the insight, experience and ideas you can get.  No one knows your business and your job like another banker.  In an age of information saturation when bankers can turn to any number of sources for problem solving, the enlightened executives turn to one another.  You don't have to test every idea for yourself or rely solely on internal resources and your own experiences to come up with creative solutions to tough problems.  That's what the President/CEO Roundtable is all about.

How the Roundtables work
Each Roundtable will be organized based on bank size and market to ensure participants have common characteristics but meaningful diversity without being competitors.  Roundtables will meet three times during the year with dates chosen by the members.  The members also select agenda topics.  The facilitator is responsible for coordinating meeting details, providing resources and handout materials, and guiding the group discussion.  GBA will assist the facilitator in organizing the groups but will not be represented at the meetings.

Directing the Roundtable Discussions
We are especially pleased that the Roundtables are being facilitated by
Elaine H. Demarest and Chrys Henderson of Demarest Srategy Group, Inc. based in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Elaine, a Georgia Certified Public Accountant, is principal and owner of a consulting and accounting firm, Demarest Strategy Group, Inc. Her practice, which she formed in 1984, is devoted exclusively to management advisory services for banks and bank holding companies in the Southeast, with a clientele of over 150 financial companies ranging in size from de novo start-ups to $3 billion in assets. The firm’s specialties include all aspects of strategic planning, financial advisory services on mergers, acquisitions, branching and expansion decisions, capital planning, infrastructure development, CFO support functions for banks & holding companies, budgeting, profit improvement, funds management and operations support, performance-based incentive systems, marketing programs, sales and service training, and preparation of federal and state regulatory applications. In its 24-year history, the firm has gained a reputation of aiding community bankers to analyze opportunities logically, to use solid strategic business judgment, to build and enhance shareholder value, and to seek practical solutions that work.

Prior to forming her practice, Elaine served the industry for ten years in CFO and operations capacities for a large multi-bank holding company in Macon, Georgia. She holds a BBA degree in accounting and a BS degree in mathematics from Mercer University. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants. The firm is an Associate Member of and frequent speaker for the Georgia Bankers Association, where Elaine has served on the GBA Board of Directors and the Community Bankers Committee. The firm is now facilitator for the GBA President / CEO and Finance / Operations Officer Roundtable peer groups across the state. The firm has been an Associate Member of and speaker for the Community Bankers Association of Georgia for over 20 years, and Elaine served on the Regulation and Taxation Committee for four years.

Chrys Henderson has 27 years of practical experience in the banking industry in Georgia.  She began her banking career as a teller at a super-regional.  Through the years, her responsibilities encompassed all levels of audit, accounting, in-house data processing, operations, investment portfolio management, financial planning and asset liability management for a mid-sized metro community bank.

For the past 13 years, Chrys has teamed with the Demarest firm to provide consulting services to community banks all over Georgia, working with companies of varying asset sizes in designing complete systems, workflow, operational development, CFO training and development, budgeting, and asset / liability administration.  She has managed and implemented conversions of all types, from simple data conversion to complete data, operational, and financial systems for a start-up bank.  Her focus in recent years has turned to infrastructure development issues due to rapid growth and evolution patterns in the industry.  Her infrastructure development work includes personnel utilization studies, work flow analyses, profit enhancement, data processing vendor selection, analysis and implementation, product evaluation and development, CFO support functions, and assisting banks in setting their strategic direction.  One of her passions is finding and helping to develop a bank’s shining stars to accept new challenges and grow to fit evolving company needs
